Jumby Bay

JUMBY BAYMap of Antigua
A Private Island Getaway

By Katharine Dyson

From the lookout tower on Jumby Bay, you get a great view of the white sandy beaches which ring the 300-acre island. Look southeast and you'll notice the red tiled roofs of the harbour villas; east you'll see a handful of beautiful multi-million dollar estates; glance in a southerly direction and you'll find the tennis courts, the original sugar mill, the old Estate House, beach pavilion, dock and sports area - the heart of this tranquil private island paradise.

At Jumby Bay privacy is fiercely protected and very little is allowed to penetrate the serenity and romance which is at the heart of this very posh place.

Ambiance is Everything
Brilliant flowers looking like ads for Miracle Grow, are everywhere. Huge ceramic and clay pots sitting in romantic courtyards are filled with flowering plants, orchids and palms; clouds of pink, red and orange bougainvillea spill over walls. Inside, the ceilings are high with fans slowly moving the air gently around the room.

You'll Never Go HungryBeach Picture
Dinner is served in the Estate House. Dating back to the 1700's, this lovely old building was once an English sugar plantation. Its courtyard with its tiles, flowers, arches and columns, resembles an Italian palazzo. Upstairs there is a comfortable bar and a library where guests can borrow books, games and puzzles.

A balanced choice of American and European dishes are featured with the menu changing each day. The wine cellar is also first rate. As night falls on the island, the candles are lit at the table on the Estate House terrace which looks over the gardens and the sea beyond.

Activities
During the day, there are plenty of things to do. Pack a picnic and head to Pasture Beach, a smaller and more private beach than the main one. Explore the island on your bike or on foot; plant yourself under a thatched umbrella with a cool drink; hang out in the hammock with a good book; play tennis; go waterskiing or wind-surfing or try out one of the sea kayaks.
